Educational Background

El Camino College Child Development Program

I have taken numerous child development classes at El Camino intending to be the most well-rounded teacher that I could offer. I have taken curriculum classes in Math and Science for Young Children, Music and Movement, Literary Arts For Young Children, and Creative Art for Young Children.

I have made it a point to take Special Education courses so that I could better serve a spectrum of abilities, and have taken classes that focus on children with Autism, ADHD, and physical and health impairments. I do my best to be inclusive of these groups when creating lesson plans.

To supplement my own ability to serve a variety of needs, I have taken a sign language class. I am not yet fluent in American Sign Language but I can teach young children preschool basics such as letters, numbers, and colors, and I can maintain a simple conversation.

I am also proud to have made the Dean's List.

Professional Development

My favorite professional development class has fueled a hobby that has become extremely beneficial to me. It was a felt story workshop that showed us how to quickly make felt pieces. However, we were taught in Literary Arts for Young  Children to create pieces that are tactile, beautiful, and layered. I took what I learned from each workshop and I now make felt story pieces that are complex, but it has also given me the ability to create other kinds of decor that makes me and my family happy.

Universal Technical Institute

At Universal Technical Institute I received two certificates, Automotive Repair and Volkswagen Specialist. This education served my time working with Volkswagen and Audi in mutliple dealership positions, and as a parent and teacher, it gives me the knowledge to be able to answer questions about how cars work. Over the years I have been able to answer all kinds of fun questions, and those questions lead to children who use their imagination to design their own vehicles that walk the line between fantasy and reality.
